YOU - Sewing Inspiration
Now that I am COMPLETELY obsessed with garment sewing, I can’t help but think of patterns that match the costumes of my favourite shows. As I was watching YOU (on Netflix), I was struck by how many costumes sparked inspiration and reminded me of some gorgeous indie patterns.
Please note: All photos were taken from the Netflix series, YOU. It’s a very dark and moody show, so hopefully the shots are clear enough!
First off, here are the trends I noticed:
And here is a round-up of the looks I came up with:
01
High neck tops were a huge theme throughout the show. This one reminded me instantly of one of my favourite patterns:
The Georgia by MimiG Style
Alterations required to make this similar to the show is omitting the sleeve ruffles and altering the sleeve length.
This look can be achieved with the beautiful stripe knits from Blackbird Fabrics (images included below).
And just for fun, here is a link to a similar pattern for a free apron from the Paper & Stitch Blog.
I also found a similar colour in my favourite organic hemp cotton from Earth Indigo.

This outfit captured my attention because it looks very similar to a shirt/bodysuit I recently made with this pattern:
The Hugo Shirt by SewingMachina
The skirt, although hard to see in this picture, could definitely be replicated with this pattern:
The Ava Skirt by Sew Over It
While I would stick with a knit fabric with good stretch and recovery, I think the skirt would work best in a nice medium-weight woven fabric.

Apologies for the saucy photo (gotta love the sex scenes though), but I loved this outfit and this was the best shot I could get of it.
While the top initially reminded me a lot of the Adrienne Blouse with its signature flowy arms, I have to go with this pattern:
Georgie Blouse by VIKISEWS
For the shirt, although it’s not easy to see, I think you could achieve this look with this pattern, without the tie:
Simplicity Skirts S9109
And if you’re looking for a similar fabric, check out this floral printed challis from Blackbird Fabrics.
Thanks for following along!
