Baby girl modern nursery tour
Since starting the nursery renovation process at 18 weeks, Will and I have been busy getting things ready for baby Fournier’s arrival. We have been refinishing furniture, sewing all the things, painting mustard accents, gold foiling printables for our frames, along with many other countless DIY projects.
Overall, we had a really fun time getting the room together, and we’re thrilled with the final result. Here is a mini tour of the room with notes on all the DIY projects – both big and small – we took on to make this room come together.
Black, white and mustard baby girl/gender neutral nursery room tour:
DIY projects include: grey-washing wood panels and creating a panel wall, sewing crib sheets from old bed sheets, knitting a cozy blanket in our colours, re-painting an Ikea floating shelf so it’s the same colour as our walls, painting a Heidi Swapp marquee “H” nightlight in our mustard accent colour.
DIY projects include: creating a white triangle accent wall with vinyl (cut with my Cameo Silhouette), installing a light dimmer for nighttime feedings and check-ins.
DIY projects include: reupholstering and refinishing a rocking chair to fit our colours and theme of the room (stay tuned for a post on reupholstering furniture!)
DIY projects include: spray-painting a brass elephant head white and hand-painting the tusks gold, creating gold foil prints with my Heidi Swapp Minc machine (“Wonderful” & “As long as I’m living my baby you’ll be”), installing white Ikea black-out blinds.
DIY projects include: Re-painting old Ikea dressers and raising one up for more dimension, re-painting a frame in our mustard accent colour (to be filled with photos of our little one when she arrives… printed at home of course!), creating another grey-washed plank wall.
DIY projects include: re-finishing an old hutch and transforming it into a closet, sewing many baby things to hang in the closet.

As you can imagine, TONS of love went into this room, and we couldn’t be happier with how it all came together. Our theme of black, white and mustard was subtle, but we like the gender neutral feel it gives off, so that the room can grow and take shape as our little one establishes her personality and tastes. We’re happy with the amount of storage we have, especially without a closet in the room, and we are eager to see how we can continue to adapt and lean on our creativity for more storage as she grows.
