2018 One Little Word
It’s the beginning of another year (well, one month into the new year), and as always, my family is choosing a word to focus on for the year.
Last year, we chose the word SIMPLIFY (you can read more about that here). Although we ended up adding a ton to our plates in 2017 with my passion project and accidental small business, we managed to achieve most of our LESS/MORE goals; we spent more time with friends, really worked on upping our recycling game, and ended up making some great connections with local farmers through the Farmers’ Markets we attended this summer. I wouldn’t say we were able to stop over-booking ourselves, but honestly, I don’t think we will ever achieve that goal. We are doers and find it really hard to be home all weekend without plans or going outside (this cold snap has been giving us all cabin fever!). So overall, I think our focus word of 2017 was a success.
This year, we are very excited about our word of the year. It is already resonating with us as a family and we are starting to see it manifesting in our daily lives.
So, for 2018, we have chosen the word GROW as our one little word of the year.
grow
/ɡrō/
verb
(of a living thing) undergo natural development by increasing in size and changing physically; progress to maturity. 2. become larger or greater over a period of time; increase.
This is how we see our family (and small handmade business) GROW-ing this year
MORE home-grown food (we’re thinking chickens and vegetables!)
LESS family screen time
MORE composting
LESS stuff (growing our closet space by donating clothes and things we no longer use)
MORE learning (from all of us, not just Harlow)
LESS consuming
MORE space (we are hoping to expand our home with an addition this year)
LESS waste
MORE creating (and possibly more wholesaling for SGS!)
I think we’re up for the challenge, and we’re already on our way towards achieving so many of these goals. But it doesn’t stop there. Our family has always been open to adventure and going wherever the road may lead us (see: Passion Project and accidental small business), and we can’t wait to see what 2018 has in store for us!
Happy new year, everyone!
